"A Different View" July 5th - August 30th
A collection of black and white photographs depicting the Gulf of Mexico from Tampa Bay to New Orleans. By Master Photographer Terry Allison
View other visions of contemporary collage. Traditional scissors and paper yield to scanning and Photoshop, and the new elements of design are film, photos and soundbytes. Artists include Bina Altera (Brooklyn); Nathaniel Stern (Johannesburg, South Africa); Lee Arnold (Brooklyn); Cristina Clarimon (Albuquerque NM); Jeffers Egan (Madison WI); Joe Farwley (Norwich CT); Betsy Lester (St. Petersburg) and Fred Otnes (Chaburn, CT).
The Museum honors the American photographer Herb Snitzer in his 50th year of making photographs. This installation of 12 select photographs strongly suggests the scope of his lengthy and varied career.
Decade by decade, Snitzer has created striking images of people and places. Jazz musicians and the civil rights movement, in particular, have deeply inspired his work. Snitzer is represented in the MFA’s important photography collection. Two of those images—portraits of photographer Aaron Siskind and jazz great Miles Davis—are featured in this exhibition.
