The need several iconic photographs of the Tampa Bay area for display in their store. This is a good excuse to go create some photographs on the 4th. You may provide one or several images to the cause. Every photograph that we use will have a photographers credit attached and you will receive an 11 X 14 print. Things like the Skyway, St. Pete Pier, University of Tampa, Tarpon Sponge Docks, Old Pasco Courthouse etc. I think you get the drift. Ok a few bird, fish and even sunset photos are ok, just remember we can not use images in which people are identifiable.

Please submit them in the next two weeks either by bringing them in on a CD, jump drive or memory card. In the case of the jump drive and memory card please allow us a few minutes to copy the files so you can take your media home. Additionally you may upload the photographs just like our photo contest only under the comments section please state: "Store decor do not print"

Thank you in advance.

Picturing a New Society: Photographs from the Soviet Union 1920s–1980s

April 14 through August 19, 2012

This exhibition explores contradictions between idealistic images and life in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).  Photography was a key tool to promote party goals both internally and abroad, but did not always reflect reality. The photographs in Picturing a New Society describe virtues for a society that often existed only within pictures. Agriculture and rural areas, industry, the military, and the youth of the USSR were cornerstones of Soviet narratives of progress, and are represented in this exhibition. Photographers include Alexander Ustinov, Max Alpert, Emanuel Evzerikhin, and Georgi Zelma, among others.  Photographs like these are rare: to Soviet photographers, images were tools to inform and influence the public, therefore many were discarded after their message was disseminated.

Picturing a New Society is drawn from recent donations of over 200 Soviet photographs by Howard Schickler and Janice Tuckwood. These remarkable photographs, the first of their kind added to the collection, bring new depth to the MFA’s photography holdings.

We have a local Photography Supply Store in the bay area and if you haven't been now is the time to go. All of the sales people are friendly and helpful and they have lots of equipment. It is time to support your local photography supply house before they are all gone. Internet is not everything. There is much to be said about touching, feeling equipment and supporting your local business man. They will be present at our Photography Club Day because they believe in you and it is time to believe in them.
